Why would a job application ask about food stamps?
Employers receive the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC - commonly referred to as Watt See) for hiring members of targeted groups such as TANF or Food Stamp recipients, veterans, and ex-felons. Essentially, it functions as government subsidized on the job training for people who have been out of the work force for any number of reasons. You're not required to disclose that you're a member of any of these groups, but you may want to as it gives the employer an extra incentive to hire you.
